Lake of the Woods and Rainy River

Lake of the Woods Control Board
Since 1925, the International Lake of the Woods Control Board has approved the rate of total discharge of water from Lake of the Woods when lake levels rise above or fall below certain extreme elevations. The Canadian Lake of the Woods Board oversees the regulation of water levels and flows on the Lake of the Woods between those extreme low and high conditions.

International Rainy-Lake of the Woods Watershed Board
The Rainy Lake of the Woods Watershed Board assists with binational coordination of water quality efforts for the entire transboundary watershed and coordinates the management of the water levels and flows on the Rainy River and Rainy Lake.

International Rainy and Namakan Lakes Rule Curve Study
The International Rainy and Namakan Lakes Rule Curve Study Board will make scientifically-supported recommendations to the IJC for modifying or retaining the 2000 Rainy and Namakan Lakes rule curves after reviewing the wide range of hydrologic, hydraulic, cultural and environmental factors.

Lake of the Woods Basin Water Quality Plan of Study
In January 2015, the International Joint Commission submitted its report "A Water Quality Plan of Study for the Lake of the Woods Basin" to the governments of Canada and the United States. The Commission strongly recommends that governments undertake all 32 projects described in Option B of the report at a total estimated cost of $8,398,000.
