Dredging – Niagara Falls
Description
An Application was made by the Power Authority of the State of New York with the support of the Hydro-Electric Power Commission of Ontario for shoal removal at Niagara Falls on the United States side of the International Boundary, near Tower Island. The shoal caused serious ice jams above the falls.
Outcome
The excavation requested in the application was approved and completed.
A subsequent letter of Reference under Docket 116 provides that the governments consider Orders issued under Dockets 75 and 78 to be recommendations under the Boundary Waters Treaty which have now been approved by them.
