International Kootenay Lake Board of Control to meet with the public in BC and Idaho
This year, the International Kootenay Lake Board of Control will be holding two public meetings to update the public on current conditions and board activities. The first is Tuesday, June 2 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. (PT) in Nelson, British Columbia at the Prestige Lakeside Resort. The second will be Wednesday, June 3 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. (PDT) at the Best Western Kootenai River Inn in Bonners Ferry, Idaho.
At these meetings, the Board will present on the regulation of Kootenay Lake and the operation of Corra Linn Dam under the International Joint Commission’s (IJC) Orders of Approval. The focus of the presentation will be Kootenay Lake water level management and the planned review of the 1938 Order on the operation of Corra Linn Dam. The board will give a presentation on the draft Order Review Plan of Study during the meetings.
The board is expected to publish their draft report by the end of June 2026, after which the public will have 30 days to submit their comments to the IKLBC.
Please note that these public meetings are not related to the International Elk - Kootenai/y Watershed Water Pollution Study or the International Elk-Kootenai/y Watershed Study Board.
Those unable to attend in person may join online to participate via the Microsoft Teams platform. You may register to virtually join the June 2 meeting hosted in Nelson or the June 3 meeting hosted in Bonners Ferry. No registration is required for in-person participation, although attendees are encouraged to sign in at the door.
Everyone who plans to participate is encouraged to submit questions to the board before the meeting via an online contact form. There also will be an opportunity to ask questions at the meeting.

The board is led by US Section Chair Col. Kathryn Sanborn and Canadian Section Chair Joel Trubilowicz.
Canada, the United States, and Ktunaxa Nation requested the International Joint Commission’s assistance in addressing transboundary water pollution in the Elk-Kootenai/y Watershed.
