Lake Memphremagog Study report on Nutrient Loading available for public review

Date

November 25th, 2019 – The Memphremagog Study Advisory Group (MSAG) has released their draft report entitled Study on nutrient loading and impacts on Lake Memphremagog for public review. The 30-day public comment period on the draft study begins Monday, November 25, 2019 and will continue until Tuesday, December 24, 2019.

On October 19, 2017, the IJC was asked by the Canadian and American governments to examine the various problems linked to nutrient loading in Lake Memphremagog and Missisquoi bay on Lake Champlain, and to recommend ways to increase efforts to help reduce nutrient loading within the watersheds.

Coordinated by Memphremagog Conservation Inc (MCI) and the Memphremagog Watershed Association (MWA), and guided by 12 people from the MSAG, this binational effort provides a snapshot of the current state of the Memphremagog watershed, presents a review of current management efforts, provides a science and policy analysis, and presents recommendations on ways to consolidate and improve current efforts geared to reduce concentrations of nutrients, and the proliferation of aquatic plants and cyanobacteria that they cause in Lake Memphremagog.
