Invitation to public meetings on flooding in the Richelieu River and Lake Champlain Basin
In response to the Spring 2011 flooding, the governments of Canada and the United States have requested that the International Joint Commission develop a study proposal which would examine the causes and impacts of flooding in the Richelieu River and Lake Champlain Basin, as well as the full range of measures to prepare for, prevent and mitigate such impacts.
The International Lake Champlain-Richelieu River Plan of Study Workgroup has been established and will develop a Plan of Study that will be submitted to the Commission this spring. The Workgroup has now set out to identify:
- studies necessary to allow an evaluation of the causes and impacts of the flooding that occurred during the spring of 2011; and
- studies necessary to develop appropriate mitigation solutions and recommendations.
