IJC work is undertaken by way of applications and references which are organized by docket. Key documents such as letters from governments assigning work to the IJC, Task Force or Study Board reports to the IJC, and final reports and letters from the IJC to the governments are available from the website.

An Application by Consolidated Mining and Smelting Company of Canada for approval to build a dam at Waneta on the Pend Oreille River which would flood a very small area of land in the United States.

A Reference to study resources of the Saint John River above Grand Falls and recommend projects for the conservation and regulation of the waters. On July 7, 1952, the reference was amended to cover the river downstream to tidewater near Fredericton, New Brunswick.
