Compensating Works flow measurements in support of improved management of St. Marys Rapids
Water Quantity
Flow measurements at the Compensating Works at the head of the St. Marys Rapids will be conducted throughout the summer and fall of 2015 in order to establish and verify relationships used to determine flow through the St. Marys Rapids at multiple partially open gate settings. The International Lake Superior Board of Control (ILSBC) has recently begun employing multiple partially open gates in lieu of fully open gates in order to provide a number of potential benefits in the St. Marys Rapids. However, because this is a new approach, flow measurements are needed to establish and verify flow relationships and ensure the conditions in the Orders of Approval for Lake Superior regulation are met.
