Water Levels and Flows
Mild temperatures and minimal ice cover in the St. Lawrence River made it possible to release record amounts of water from Lake Ontario during January and continuing into February, but inflows to Lake Ontario also set records last month.
Since the 2017 high water event and more recently in 2019, the International Joint Commission and its International Lake Ontario – St. Lawrence River Board (ILOSLRB) have heard, and seen first-hand the devastating impacts that extreme water level conditions have had.
The International Souris River Board (ISRB) will meet on February 20th from 1:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and February 21st from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Clarion Hotel and Convention Centre located at 2200 East Burdick Expressway, Minot, North Dakota.
Lake Superior and Lake Michigan-Huron water levels are above record-highs for this time of year as wet conditions persisted across the upper Great Lakes basin in January.
