Great Lakes

The overall objective of this project is to develop a new, authoritative, coordinated numerical model that efficiently and accurately simulates water levels and connecting channel flows in the Great Lakes system given user-specified net basin supply scenarios.

A Reference to conduct a study of water quality in Lake Huron and Lake Superior, and recommend remedial measures to restore and protect water quality in the Lakes.
An Application by the St. Lawrence Seaway Authority to construct the Toussaint Causeway and effect partial closure of a section of the St. Lawrence River because of an increasing number of accidents to downbound vessels entering Iroquois Lock.
A Reference to conduct regional public meetings on the review of the Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement.
A Reference to examine and report on how the consumptive use and removal of water, diversions, and management and policies regarding water resources affect the levels, flows, and sustainability of water supplies in transboundary basins.
A Reference to review available information regarding the proposed Ontario Hydro (now Ontario Power Generation) Redevelopment Project and its potential transboundary and environmental effects.

A Reference to examine and report on methods to alleviate the adverse consequences of fluctuating water levels in the Great Lakes-St. Lawrence River basin

A Reference to establish an advisory board to assist the IJC with its continuing responsibilities regarding Great Lakes water supplies, levels and flows and for the Commission to provide advice on unmet data needs.
A Reference to inquire into and report on Windsor-Detroit air pollution including the extent and sources of air pollution in the vicinity of Detroit and Windsor and to recommend measures to mitigate smoke from ships on the Detroit River.
The 1946 Reference (Docket 54) was extended in 1948 to include the Niagara River.
