International Rainy-Lake of the Woods Watershed Board Water Levels Committee Invites Public Comments on its 2022 Post Flood Report
The International Rainy-Lake of the Woods Watershed Board (IRLWWB) Water Levels Committee (WLC) has released a draft of its 2022 Post Flood Report. The Committee welcomes public input and encourages all interested parties and individuals to offer their opinions and insights until April 3, 2023.
In the spring and summer of 2022, the Namakan Chain of Lakes and Rainy Lake reached some of the highest water levels on record. The flood was a natural disaster that lasted many weeks. Rainy Lake reached record breaking water levels and Namakan Lake ranked as the third highest water levels on record.
The draft report serves as a review of the conditions that led to the high-water event in 2022, a summary of WLC actions, and provides answers to questions raised by the public, including analysis on what would have happened if the High Flood Risk Rule Curve had been employed starting March 10, 2022.
The public is invited to provide comments until April 3, 2023. Details on how to provide comments on the draft report are available on the IRLWWB’s Public Consultations page.
