Project Description

The International Joint Commission (IJC) has prioritized working actively to increase collaboration and engagement with Indigenous peoples (i.e., Métis Nation, First Nations, and Tribes) along the transboundary basins, including those within the Red River Basin. Indigenous participation and inclusion in the management of our shared waters is of great value and interest to the IJC.

To enable such participation, Phase I of this work is to improve overall understanding of the current state and priorities of the Nations and Tribes in the International Red River Basin. This work incorporated research, workshops, and deliverables to build a common understanding of the Nations and Tribes in the Red River Basin through virtual meetings and workshops between the Nations on both sides of the international border.
