Nutrients in Lake Erie and Lake Ontario: Synthesis of International Joint Commission Recommendations and Assessment of Domestic Action Plans
This report looks at efforts to manage nutrients in Lake Erie and Lake Ontario by assessing federal, state and provincial Domestic Action Plans and their implementation, reviewing eight previous IJC reports on nutrient management, and assessing the extent to which key IJC recommendations have been addressed in the Domestic Action Plans. The report provides four action-related and three science-related recommendations for Lake Erie, and one action-related and one science-related recommendation for Lake Ontario. Action recommendations are targeted at improving accountability, tracking, and documenting the effectiveness of management practices, and improving data collection and reporting. Science-related recommendations are targeted at improving adoption of best management practices by documenting value and effectiveness.
This report was presented in a public webinar with a complimentary SAB-RCC report "Evaluation of Institutional Arrangements to Affect Public Nutrient Management Through Adaptive Management".
