Council of Great Lakes Research Managers

Date
Council of Great Lakes Research Managers

Public Meeting

Thursday, October 30, 1997, 5:00-7:00 p.m. (Public Comment Period)

The International Joint Commission has called on all of the Commission's Boards to hold at least one public meeting annually to report on their work and to receive the views of the public.

The Council of Great Lakes Research Managers, which advises the Commission on the adequacy of the research to implement the Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement, will hold a public meeting as part of its fall meeting. The Council's meeting will begin at 9:00 a.m. on October 30. This meeting is open to the public. In an effort to gather additional public input, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. we will have an open public comment period during which members of the public can express their opinions to the Council on issues related to Great Lakes research, water quality, and the environment. The meeting will be held at the following location:

Ameri-Cana Resort & Conference Centre
8444 Lundy's Lane
Niagara Falls, Ontario

Of particular interest to the Council at this meeting will be the importance of research and science as the foundation for credible decisionmaking in RAPs and LaMPs. Also, the Council wishes to identify which areas of research are most useful to RAP and LaMP coordinators, and how the research needs of these programs can be communicated more effectively. The Council believes that the research-management linkage is essential to sustained progress on RAPs and LaMPs and that current scientific knowledge is critical to an informed constituency for these programs. The Council welcomes comments on these and other topics related to Great Lakes Research.
