Support Staff and Committees

Support Staff

The Board is supported by staff of the US and Canadian federal governments and the IJC.

  • Secretaries
The secretaries provide administrative and communication support to the Board, maintaining Board minutes, semi-annual reports and other records.

  • International Niagara Committee (INC)
The Board collaborates with the International Niagara Committee (INC), a body created by an exchange of notes in 1955 by the Governments of Canada and the United States. The INC consists of one representative from each of the Governments, identified in Article 7 of the 1950 Niagara Treaty, to determine the amount of water available for the Welland Canal, Niagara Falls and subsequent power generation.

  • International Niagara Working Committee (INWC)
The International Niagara Working Committee (INWC) is a body that supports both the Board and the INC. Members and associates of the INWC obtain, compile and verify Niagara River water use data, conduct ice extent and thickness measurements on Lake Erie, among other duties.

  • Engineering Advisors
The IJC engineering advisors liaise between the IJC and the Board, and advise on the IJC’s Orders and directives.

Committees

  • Great Lakes-St. Lawrence River Adaptive Management (GLAM) Committee
The GLAM Committee reviews and evaluates the plans for regulating the outflows from Lake Superior and Lake Ontario in light of changing conditions and how water levels and flows affect socio-economic interests and the environment. The information assists the Boards with operations and helps the Boards determine whether changes to the regulation plans should be considered.
